PaperShelter ("we", "us") builds a personalised daily newspaper. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We keep it plain and only collect what the product needs to work.
How we handle news content
We crawl the public RSS/Atom feeds you choose to follow (our crawler identifies itself as PaperShelterBot/1.0 and respects robots.txt — see /bot). From those feeds we show you the original headline, source, date and a short excerpt, plus an AI-written summary. We never republish a publisher's full article text — we always link back to the original.
Retention: we briefly keep the full extracted article text internally only to write summaries, rank and de-duplicate stories. That full text is deleted within 7 days; we retain only the headline, link, source, date, summary and content hashes. Any article text you paste into "My Links" is private to your account, never shown to anyone else, and deleted once it has been used in an edition.
Children's data (Kids edition)
For a child profile we store only the minimum: a nickname (never a real name), an age band and a country. We require a parent/guardian consent confirmation before a child profile can be created, and we track nothing about the child beyond their daily reading-time limit.
Removal requests
Publishers or readers can ask us to remove content or exclude a site at any time by emailing hello@papershelter.com. We handle requests promptly.
Information we collect
- Account details: your email address and name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email, name and profile picture from Google.
- Your preferences: the topics, interests and news sources (RSS feeds and article links) you choose to follow.
- Content you add: article URLs you submit and the article text we fetch to build your editions.
- Payment information: if you subscribe, payments are processed by Razorpay. We store your subscription status but never see or store your card, UPI or bank details.
- Notification tokens: if you enable browser push notifications, we store the token needed to deliver them.
How we use your information
- Create and personalise your daily newspaper and kids editions.
- Generate readable summaries and layouts using Google Gemini AI processing.
- Manage your account, trial and subscription.
- Send edition-ready notifications, only if you opt in.
AI processing
To assemble your editions, the article content and your preferences are sent to Google's Gemini models for summarisation and layout. This content is used only to generate your edition and is not used to advertise to you.
Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with the service providers that make PaperShelter work: Google (sign-in and AI), Razorpay (payments), and our hosting and database providers. Each processes data on our behalf.
Data retention
We keep your account and content while your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time by emailing
support@papershelter.com.
Your rights
You can access, correct or delete your personal data, and withdraw notification consent from your browser settings. Contact us to exercise any of these rights.
Changes
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We will update the effective date above when we do.
